The company's patented access control technology "Symphonic Trust" is an identity and access control solution to monitor and control access to data both within an organisation and with trusted external parties.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Strathclyde in association with Symphonic Software Ltd. This appointment presents an opportunity to apply automated reasoning algorithms to enhance the security, performance and compliance of information-sharing systems in both the public and private sector. The appointment is a 24 month fixed term contract position based at Symphonic Software Ltd in Edinburgh.

The partnership will provide a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic graduate to be instrumental in the development and future direction of an integral feature of the company's product offering. To be considered for the role you will be a graduate with an MSc or First Class degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, or similar related discipline. You will have software development skills and experience of the Java programming language. You will also have some experience of database development and knowledge of formal logic, discrete mathematics or mathematical proofs. This position will require you to plan and organise your own workload. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise way. You will have the ability to learn new mathematical concepts with guidance.

You will be an employee of the University of Strathclyde but will spend most of your working time at the company's premises in Edinburgh. It is anticipated that following this 24 month fixed term appointment, there may be the opportunity for you to be offered future employment within Symphonic Software Ltd. The position has an additional allocated training budget of £4,000 for personal development.

Brief Outline of Job:

The successful candidate, supported by the academic team at the University of Strathclyde, will play a key role in managing and implementing strategic developments in the company and transferring knowledge between the University and company. Typical challenges you could encounter as a KTP Associate include designing and introducing new or improved algorithms, designing and implementing innovation software solutions, and introducing improved quality systems and technology, in order to allow the company to break into new markets. Main Activities/Responsibilities:

1. Review of existing access control policy implementation and analyses, documentation of current processes.

2. Review of state of the art automated reasoning technologies of relevance to access control policy analysis. Development of prototype access control policy analyses.

3. Review of customer requirements for analysis of access control policies.

4. Development of new access control policy analysis implementations and integration into existing code base.

5. Integration of customer feedback into implementation. Development of end-user oriented graphical interfaces for access control policy analysis.

6. Embedding of new knowledge, systems, algorithms and techniques into the company by providing training and support.

7. Project management and resourcing.

8. Prepare and deliver Project progress presentations to senior management and academic staff. Complete KTP Final report and contribute towards the dissemination of the KTP activities including publications, case studies and external presentations.

9. Liaise and communicate with Symphonic Software Ltd management throughout the project.

10. Engage in continuous professional development
